Meissner Tierney Fisher & Nichols: 150 Years of Legal Excellence, Finally With a Phone System to Match

One of Wisconsin's most distinguished law firms replaces an end-of-life on-premise PBX with Mitel MiCloud Connect — giving attorneys full mobile access, voicemail transcription for timekeeping, and conference bridges that no longer require a third party.

The Challenge

Meissner Tierney Fisher & Nichols S.C. was running an end-of-life on-premise PBX that couldn't support attorney mobility, required manual voicemail retrieval, and made simple tasks like transferring calls unnecessarily complicated.

The Solution

CTPros guided the firm through a full infrastructure evaluation and migrated them to Mitel MiCloud Connect — delivering mobile access for attorneys, voicemail-to-email transcription, simplified conferencing, and a hosted platform that eliminated the upfront hardware costs of replacing on-premise infrastructure.

About Meissner Tierney Fisher & Nichols S.C.

Meissner Tierney Fisher & Nichols S.C. is a distinguished Wisconsin law firm that has been providing litigation and transactional legal services to businesses and individuals in the Midwest for over 150 years. The firm's team of shareholders, associates, and administrative staff depends on clear, efficient communication to serve clients — internally across the organization and externally with clients who expect responsiveness regardless of where their attorney is at any given moment.

An End-of-Life PBX and a Digital World That Wouldn't Wait

The firm's on-premise PBX had reached end-of-life support. Rather than replace it with another on-premise system, the firm's leadership saw the opportunity to address the communications inefficiencies that had been building for years — particularly around attorney mobility and the cumbersome processes that were costing staff time on everyday tasks.

Attorneys spending time outside the office couldn't easily make or receive business calls from their cell phones while keeping their personal number private. Voicemail required manually calling into the office. Transferring a call to a colleague involved parking the call, calling the receptionist, and having the receptionist route it — a multi-step process for something that should take seconds. Conference calls depended on a third-party service.

Pamela Zacharias, the firm's administrator, evaluated multiple vendors and specifically sought out a Mitel Platinum Partner with a strong reputation. The feedback she heard about CTPros was consistently positive, and the firm's IT manager noted the Platinum designation and track record. CTPros earned the engagement.

A Full Evaluation — and a Hosted Platform That Made the Cost Case Clear

CTPros conducted a full consultative evaluation of the firm's current infrastructure and short and long-term goals. The analysis pointed away from another on-premise PBX — the upfront cost of hardware and licenses would have run into the tens of thousands. Mitel MiCloud Connect, hosted on Mitel's secure servers with updates and maintenance handled on the back end, was the right fit.

CTPros installed the Mitel Mobility app on the mobile devices of each shareholder and attorney who needed remote access — enabling them to make and receive calls, attend conference calls, check colleague availability, and transfer calls from their cell phones exactly as they would from their desk phones, with their office number displayed as the outbound caller ID rather than their personal number.

Mobile Attorneys, Simpler Processes, and a Timekeeping Tool Nobody Expected

The outcomes at Meissner Tierney went beyond what the firm originally prioritized. Attorneys gained full mobile access — business calls, conference attendance, call transfers, and voicemail — from their personal devices without exposing personal numbers. Shareholders who work from home can plug in a pre-configured desk phone that mirrors their office setup exactly, with no additional configuration required.

The voicemail transcription feature became one of the most valued — and most practically useful — capabilities the firm hadn't anticipated. Voicemails delivered as email text with an attached audio file give attorneys the ability to scan messages and prioritize responses from anywhere. The call history with duration data turned out to be a direct timekeeping tool, helping attorneys track phone time for billing purposes without any additional process.

Conference calls, previously dependent on a third-party service, now happen directly within the platform with a few clicks.
